San Antonio Airport completes first phase of Terminal A renovations

Tomorrow (1st February) San Antonio International Airport (SAT) will open the first completed phase of the Terminal A renovations. Housing Delta Air Lines, Gates 14, 15, 16 of Terminal A will open for public and airline usage. Included in the renovations are new finishes, infrastructure upgrades and completely modernized restrooms which will provide a customer experience consistent with the airport’s Terminal B, which opened in November 2010.

San Antonio Airport to begin renovations of Terminal A

This week, San Antonio International Airport (SAT) kicks off a 18-month renovation project on its 30-year old Terminal A facility. New finishes, infrastructure upgrades and completely modernized restrooms will provide a customer experience consistent with the airport’s Terminal B, which opened in November 2010. The project also allows for access and queuing improvements to the TSA security checkpoint in the popular terminal. Estimated to cost $35 million, work in the terminal will be phased and primarily occur at night to limit interruption of service and convenience.

San Antonio International Airport recognized for several industry awards

The Federal Aviation Administration recently recognized the San Antonio Airport System with a 2011 Airport Safety Award for demonstrating three consecutive years of outstanding certification inspections. The award was given because the Aviation Department has shown its commitment to Safety as demonstrated by being an industry leader in implementing a Safety Management System (SMS), which is the first in the nation to do so. San Antonio International Airport was part of a pilot program to be the first airport to implement an SMS, which will soon be an industry mandate in the near future.

Airport’s original terminal building demolition underway

The demolition of the original terminal facility at San Antonio International Airport is currently underway. The abatement process and interior demolition have been ongoing since January 2011. Earlier this month, demolition began on the exterior of the building from the Aircraft Operations Area (AOA) side of the facility. However, in recent weeks the process has become apparent to guests and passengers as demolition of the facility is now visible from the airport’s roadway system and Terminal B facility.

San Antonio International Airport’s new Terminal B open for Business

The City of San Antonio has announced the first flights will depart from the San Antonio International Airport’s new Terminal B facility November 9, 2010. This milestone marks the completion of the major Airport Expansion Program that was initiated as part of the 1998 Master Plan. As of November 9, 2010, Terminal B will be open for business and Terminal 1 will be renamed Terminal A.

San Antonio International Airport celebrates completion of new Terminal B

The City of San Antonio will be celebrating the completion of its new San Antonio International Airport Terminal B facility. This milestone marks the substantial completion of a major Airport Expansion Program that was initiated as part of the 1998 Master Plan. The Terminal B groundbreaking occurred in June 2008, and just shy of 18 months later, it will be ready for the first flight in November 2010.
