Stockholm Arlanda Airport opens its largest-ever commercial space, offering a diverse range of Nordic-inspired shops, dining, and passenger services.

Just over five years since breaking ground, Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) has completed its largest commercial investment to date: a new 11,000-square-metre Marketplace in Terminal 5, home to over 40 new shops, cafés and restaurants.

“We are so pleased and proud to have put the finishing touches to the Marketplace investment project, allowing us to present a brand-new passenger experience offering a modern range of food, drink and shopping to our passengers,” said Charlotte Ljunggren, Director of Marketing and Sales at Swedavia.

The development is part of Swedavia’s long-term commercial strategy aimed at enhancing passenger experience through variety, renewal and affordability. Located next to the airport’s upgraded security control, the Marketplace features a mix of international names and Swedish favourites, as well as a concept focused on Nordic gifts.

“Our vision for the new Marketplace has been to provide a shopping, food and drink experience with an element of the unexpected that will leave an impression on passengers,” Ljunggren continued. “We want a wide variety of restaurants serving food from all over the world, and shops with a price range to suit all pockets.”

More than 23 million passengers are expected to pass through Arlanda in 2024, making the Marketplace an attractive proposition for retailers and restaurateurs. Emphasis has also been placed on local identity, with Swedish and Nordic influences shaping both the offer and the design.

“At Swedavia, we are proud to operate leading airports in the Nordic region and we strive to reflect the flavour and character of the region,” added Ljunggren. “We have focused on strengthening our Swedish brands in response to the strong demand for more Nordic, Swedish and local products, both to keep and to give as gifts.”

The phased opening of Marketplace began in autumn 2023 and has continued into early summer 2025. In May, the space was recognised as ‘Commercial Space of the Year 2025’ by Nordic Commercial Spaces & Communities (NCSC), an award that highlighted its innovative, consumer-focused design and flexible, attractive environment.

“The award is a ringing endorsement of our investment strategy,” said Ljunggren. “Customer satisfaction between March and May this year rose by nine per cent compared to the same period in 2023. This gives us confidence that we are heading in the right direction in our redesign of Arlanda.”

The Marketplace now offers a broad retail and dining selection, including & Other Stories, GANT, Rituals, Stockholm Duty Free, Joe & The Juice, Jureskogs, Espresso House, and La Girafe by Pontus Frithiof. It also includes services such as 7-Eleven, WHSmith, FOREX, and Global Blue.

With this major investment complete, Arlanda Airport is set to provide travellers with a world-class shopping and dining experience that reflects both global standards and Nordic charm.
