Miami International Airport (MIA) has become the first airport in the world to offer free, unlimited access to ReBokeh Vision Technologies’ assistive software, supporting travellers with low vision. Developed by Baltimore-based ReBokeh, the app, which also includes A,I allows users to customise a live camera feed from their mobile devices by adjusting contrast, colour, zoom, and lighting, helping them better navigate the airport environment.

Available to Apple users, ReBokeh also includes ReBokeh AI, a new feature enabling users to ask personalised questions about their surroundings. The AI tool adapts to the language settings on the user’s device, offering multilingual support and functioning as a visual translation aid.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava praised the partnership, stating: “I am thrilled that MIA is now the first airport in the world to provide ReBokeh’s groundbreaking innovation to our travellers with vision challenges.”

ReBokeh’s software offers practical benefits throughout MIA, from reading signage and gate details to identifying restaurants and shops. Designed for the 90% of blind and low-vision individuals who retain some functional sight, the app promotes independence by enhancing users’ existing vision, instead of replacing it with audio or tactile alternatives.

ReBokeh’s founder and CEO, Rebecca Rosenberg, who lives with low vision, said: “We’re incredibly excited that Miami International Airport will be a leader in airport accessibility.”

The initiative forms part of MIA’s award-winning MyMIAccess programme. In 2023, MIA became the first airport in Florida and second in the U.S. to earn accreditation from Airports Council International’s Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation programme, recognising its inclusive approach.

ReBokeh, a SaaS company, specialises in custom-built, empowerment-driven accessibility tools designed to give low-vision users greater autonomy and a more seamless travel experience.
