Airport Awards 2017 winners announced!

In celebration of International Airport Review’s 20th anniversary year, we launched our inaugural Awards back in March 2017 to showcase the wealth of excellence, innovation and responsible development in today’s airport industry.

Entrepreneurs in our sector have always pushed the boundaries of technology and strived to do things differently, so we wanted our awards to reflect that spirit – and our expectations were blown away after receiving 131 entries and an epic 77,000 votes. We have now announced our winners.

Airports, airport operators, regulatory bodies, consultancies and technology and equipment suppliers alike were invited to nominate their companies in at least one of the Award categories. They were asked to outline a recent project that shone as an example of innovation in their chosen category. The Awards included nine distinct categories, which reflected our own core topic areas:

  • Passenger Experience
  • Terminal Operations
  • Airside Operations
  • Environmental Awareness
  • ATC / ATM
  • Construction & Design
  • Revenue Generation
  • Technological Solutions
  • Security

In total we received 131 entries across all nine categories, from companies across the globe. The vote then went public via the International Airport Review website where our digital audience had two months to browse the entries and vote for their preferred choice in each category. Industry response to the Awards was unprecedented, with over 77,000 votes received from the global airport community.

Once voting closed, votes were tallied up and the International Airport Review team then spent many hours assessing the merits of each entry before deciding on a shortlist of 27 companies (three in each category). This shortlist was publicised before being sent to a judging panel of independent industry experts who work closely with our brand for review.

We have been overwhelmed by the response received to our inaugural awards and the way in which our communities have engaged. A special mention must go to PT Angkasa Pura – shortlisted for both the ATC/ATM and Passenger Experience awards – who came up with a very innovative way of engaging with their own digital community, securing numerous votes in the process.

A big thank you to everybody who nominated, voted and took part in the 2017 International Airport Review Awards and helped make them a resounding success. If you would like to find out the winners of the International Airport Awards, please click below:
