A new mobile solution trialled at Gatwick and four other UK airports is enabling airport ground teams to deliver faster boarding, reduced queues and more personalised passenger service.

easyJet has begun rolling out a mobile ground operations tool across its European network, following a successful trial in partnership with SITA. The SITA Agent App allows airport ground crew to assist passengers directly in the terminal, removing the need for fixed check-in desks and enabling more agile operations.

During the trial, over 1,000 ground staff used the app to print more than 40,000 boarding passes, check in more than 30,000 passengers and board over five million travellers. At London Gatwick alone, the app supported boarding for 1.4 million passengers and the issuance of 17,000 boarding passes in just eight months.

Simon Cox, Director of Ground Operations at easyJet, said the app is helping to “reduce queues, speed up check-in, and deliver a more personal, efficient experience,” while also supporting the airline’s vision of a modern, customer-centric airport. The mobile solution has also simplified training and improved operational resilience, particularly during peak periods or disruptions.

By enabling mobile check-in, boarding and bag-tagging, the app reduces reliance on physical infrastructure and allows airports to optimise space and resources. This shift supports broader efforts to enhance passenger experience and streamline terminal operations.

Nathalie Altwegg, SVP of Airports at SITA, described the collaboration as “a blueprint for how the industry can transform,” highlighting the benefits of agility and efficiency for both airports and passengers.

The deployment marks a significant step in rethinking how airport teams interact with travellers, with the potential to reshape ground operations across more than 150 airports in easyJet’s network.
