Gatwick Airport (IATA code: LGW), or London Gatwick, is the second largest of the main London airports and is the second busiest airport in the United Kingdom in terms of passenger traffic.

Located some 30 miles south of central London (half an hour by train), just outside the town of Crawley in West Sussex, Gatwick Airport opened as an aerodrome for commercial flights in the early 1930s. Today the airport consists of two terminals, north and south, which use a single runway, 3,316 metres in length. A second runway exists but is only operated when the main runway is out of action.

Airport Environmental Awareness Award WinnerGatwick airport flies to more destinations than any other UK airport, handling over 43 million passengers per year. Over fifty airlines fly from the airport including long-haul operators like British Airways and Virgin and low-cost operators like easyJet, Thomas Cook and Thomson.

Gatwick was the world’s first airport to have a direct mainline train link with a dedicated railway station. The airport aims to run a train to the capital every two and a half minutes by 2024.

Gatwick airport won the International Airport Review Award for Environmental Awareness in 2017.
