Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl), Hong Kong’s largest independent cargo handler, has scooped the Sustainability Award, at the Pride of Ground Handling Awards.

Sustainability is a new award category introduced this year. The award was given following a two-stage vetting process, with the final decision being made by a panel of 12 expert judges and industry observers. Judges sought evidence of quality, teamwork, safety policies, and passion for ground handling, when examining the entries.

Hactl’s award submission majored on its ‘Sustainability Matrix’ – a comprehensive model spanning decarbonisation, energy, waste, health and safety, education (training), livelihood, and community.

The award finalists were announced in a virtual ceremony hosted by Max Gosney, GHI Portfolio Director and Conference Chairman, and Hactl’s award was presented by Celine Hourcade of Change Horizon, who was one of the judges. She described the Hactl entry as ‘very inspiring’.

Hactl Chief Executive, Wilson Kwong commented: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award in recognition of our efforts and investment in sustainability.

“For us, sustainability is not an option but an imperative. We have one fragile planet, and we must try to undo the damage which has already been done. Time is not on our side, which is why we pursued our Green Terminal programme relentlessly, even while the COVID-19 pandemic raged around us.”

Kwong added: “Hactl is already embarked on its sustainability journey, and this award will motivate our team to become even more engaged, and to continue our mission.”
