VINCI Airports launches new biometric solution dedicated to passengers in Portugal.

VINCI Airports and ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, responsible for managing 10 airports in Portugal, part of their network since 2013 – are implementing a new technological solution for passengers at Portuguese airports: Biometric Experience by VINCI Airports. This is an innovation project, supported by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU programme, which focuses on the application of technology to improve the quality of service at Lisbon, Porto, Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada airports.

The project was launched at the beginning of the year at Lisbon and Porto airports and in the second half of 2024 the technological solution will be available in Faro, Madeira and Ponta Delgada. The first tests are being carried out with passengers from TAP Air Portugal on departures from Lisbon and Porto airports, on flights previously selected by the company, in the Schengen area – Europe. In a second phase, other airlines and more destinations will be added, including extra-European flights.

Passengers who are included in the test flights and who are eligible (only passengers of legal age can use biometric data) can participate by registering in advance on their mobile device using the “Biometric Experience by VINCI Airports” app, available on IOS and Android.  Alternatively, they can register at the airport, at a device available for this purpose, located at check-in, the public area for departures in Lisbon and Porto, or next to the boarding gates for passengers transferring between flights.

Join us live for an insightful webinar on 11th December at 14:00 GMT, in collaboration with Smiths Detection, as we explore the strategic balance of operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and sustainability in high-volume security environments.

This session offers a focused look into future-proofing your security strategy.

Key learning points

  • Cost Reduction: Strategies to minimize bag travel time while simultaneously reducing operational costs.
  • Regulatory Roadmap: Insights into the next wave of regulatory changes and their impact on future investment decisions.
  • Sustainable Systems: Practical approaches to building sustainability into security systems and lowering the total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Scalable Solutions: Real-world examples of scalable systems supporting current airport growth and preparing for tomorrow.

Register now for expert insights, case studies, and actionable strategies on operational efficiency!

Registration and use are simple: in the app or at the kiosk, simply photograph/scan your boarding pass, electronic passport or Portuguese nationality card and take a selfie, accepting the terms and conditions. You will then have a smoother and faster boarding experience by having your biometric data scanned, without having to present your boarding pass again.

The process simplifies the journey for the passenger, who gains free time, in a paperless & contactless journey, with a total guarantee of confidentiality, since the data is deleted after the flight departs.
