Kansai Airports continues to strive towards plastic-free operations

In Japan, nine million tonnes of plastic waste are produced each year, of which four million tonnes are disposable plastics such as plastic bottles and bags.
VINCI Airports and Kansai Airports Group are working together to reduce the use of plastic.
One element of this campaign is to make people aware of the effects plastic has on the environment, in line with a global environmental strategy ‘AirPact’.
In Japan, nine million tonnes of plastic waste are produced every year. Of these, four million tonnes are disposable plastics such as plastic bottles and bags.
Since 1 July in Japan, stores have begun charging for the use of plastic bags. VINCI Airports and the Kansai Airports Group are taking this further by implementing new concrete measures at Kansai, Osaka Itami and Kobe airports: Ecological paper bags and bags made from organic, FSC-certified products are now available in airport stores.
In addition to this, these airports are committed to sustainable development through numerous initiatives, such as the adoption of renewable energies, the transition of airport vehicles to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV), and the sorting, recycling and reduction of waste.
