The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority has signed a 50 year licence agreement with The Boring Company to develop the Music City Loop, a zero emission, high speed underground transit system serving Nashville International Airport (BNA).

The all electric system will feature a fleet of vehicles owned and operated by The Boring Company, connecting passengers between BNA and key transit points, including Downtown Nashville. The project is designed to reduce surface roadway congestion, enhance passenger experience and meet or exceed National Fire Protection Association fire and life safety standards.

Doug Kreulen, President and CEO of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority, said: “Our growth at BNA continues to outpace all projections, and ease of access to the airport is crucial for every passenger we serve. The Airport Authority’s focus is on bringing innovation, technology and enhanced service to ensure we stay ahead of regional growth. This new service gives our passengers another excellent option for reaching BNA in a timely manner. We are delighted to make way for the Music City Loop with The Boring Company.”

Under the agreement, The Boring Company will fully fund design, construction, operations and maintenance, resulting in zero capital investment from the Airport Authority. The 50 year term is projected to generate approximately $34 million in licence fees and an estimated $309 million in pick up and drop off fees, alongside reimbursement of legal, engineering and administrative costs.

With passenger numbers forecast to reach 40 million annually at Terminal I and 70 million with a future Terminal II, the underground system supports long term capacity growth while strengthening sustainability and financial resilience.
