Milan Bergamo Airport opens enlarged terminal and upgraded security area to streamline passenger flow, enhance comfort and meet rising demand.

SACBO has inaugurated the new departures terminal at Milan Bergamo Airport (BGY), marking the completion of expansion works that began on 15 March 2024. The project, funded by SACBO with an investment of 55 million euro, includes 41 million for infrastructure and 14 million for next-generation X-ray screening machines. It forms part of the SACBO Group’s wider development plan, valued at around 300 million euro since 2020.

The inauguration ceremony, introduced by SACBO’s President Giovanni Sanga, was attended by civil, military and religious authorities, along with the President of ENAC, Avv. Pierluigi Di Palma, and the President of Assaeroporti, Carlo Borgomeo.

The new departures area covers 7,500 sqm on the terminal’s first floor and features 14 security lanes equipped with advanced technology. These lanes allow passengers to keep all items in their hand luggage, including liquids of up to 2 litres per container and electronic devices. The first lane is dedicated to passengers with reduced mobility, families with young children and fast-track users. Entry to security is controlled through 9 boarding pass readers.
