Nokia to upgrade Taoyuan International Airport network to boost security, reliability and operational efficiency

Passengers at Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) are set to benefit from more secure, reliable and efficient airport services as the airport upgrades its communications infrastructure with Nokia’s IP/MPLS solution. Announced today, the project will see Taoyuan International Airport Corporation (TIAC) replace and expand the existing system in Terminals 1 and 2 to strengthen protection against cyberattacks and ensure long term reliability. Delivered in partnership with HwaCom Systems, the enhanced network will support TIAC’s ambition to become a major regional hub.

Nokia’s mission critical IP/MPLS technology will provide exceptional resilience and high service uptime for essential airport operations. The solution consolidates voice, data and video communications, along with operational technology services such as check in kiosks, the baggage handling system, Wi Fi and CCTV, onto a single network infrastructure. This reduces system complexity and helps lower operational costs. An end to end network, service and security management platform will also give TIAC greater visibility of network performance and health, enabling smoother and more efficient airport operations.

TIAC is Taiwan’s busiest airport, handling almost 45 million passengers in 2024. To meet rising demand for both passengers and cargo, the airport is constructing a third terminal scheduled to be operational in 2027. With growing capacity needs, secure and reliable networks are essential to ensure high performance, operational safety and a superior experience for travellers.

The deployment includes Nokia’s 7750 Service Router, 7250 Interconnect Routers, 7210 Service Access System and the Nokia Network Service Platform to simplify and automate operations.
