Dozens of new electric vehicle charging points are now available to passengers, enhancing the provision for sustainable transport to and from Edinburgh Airport.

A total of 40 EV chargers are available across three of the airport’s car parks, providing a convenient option to drivers who want to charge their electric vehicles either before or after their flight.

These chargers were installed as part of Edinburgh Airport‘s Low Carbon Energy Project which will also see a solar farm installed on the airfield, in turn helping work towards the airport’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions.

Five chargers have been introduced to the FastPark valet parking option where passengers can book to have their car plugged in while they are away and return to a fully charged vehicle.

15 22kWh chargers with a maximum stay of 24-hours are also available for plug-in in Terminal Parking near the multi-storey car park, while 20 7kWh chargers are in place in Plane Parking, where there’s no time limit for use.

Gordon Robertson, Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer at Edinburgh Airport said:

“It’s important to us that we provide the infrastructure to support sustainable transport options to and from the airport, and the introduction of EV chargers in three of our car parks will help us do that.

“We know there is an ever growing demand for charging points as more and more people make the switch to electric, and we’re looking forward to seeing these in use across the airport campus now they are live.

“We have ambitious plans to reduce emissions as set out in the Zero Carbon pillar of Greater Good, our sustainability strategy, and this is one way we can help drive these down and ensure a sustainable future for the airport.”

The introduction of the EV chargers comes amid a number of different projects going on across the airport as part of Greater Good, our sustainability strategy.

These include the upcoming installation of an airside solar farm to deliver on our commitment to self-generate 25% of our energy needs, the introduction of a Campus Partners Standard, and our move to power airside vehicles with hydrotreated vegetable oil rather than diesel.
