With an aim to improve automation of air hub operations, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is piloting new cleaning robots.
The robots, named TASKI SWINGOBOT 2000, CLEANFIX RA 660 NAVI, and Russian VeDroid, ensure fast and quality cleaning, though the airport has emphasised that the robots should be tailored to working in a dynamic airport environment, meeting all the safety requirements.
“Safety is our key requirement for cleaning robots,” said Moscow Domodedovo Press Secretary, Alexander Vlasov. “It is essential that if obstacles appear, for instance, a baggage trolley, a robot should stop, make a quick decision and resume movements without performance degradation. If a robot cannot continue the cleaning, it should go back to the service station.”
The test of the robots has taken place in the office space and in the terminal building. The evaluation of the test will take into account the safety and design for the manufacturing of the robots, as well as the quality of cleaning and economic efficiency.
The airport will complete the testing by the end of the year and the final purchase decision will be made in 2020.
