Belfast City Airport has completed its £3m investment project that has significantly enhanced security checks, the new security screening technology will enable passengers to keep liquids, gels, and pastes, including toiletries and cosmetics, up to 100ml.

Belfast City Airport (BHD) has completed its £3m investment project that has significantly enhanced security checks. This project came from the UK (Conservative) government’s 2022 announcement that all major airports in the UK would be required by law to install high-tech new security body and baggage scanners.
“This is a significant change to how passengers will move through security with cabin baggage. At Belfast City Airport, we pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional passenger experience and the new security screening technology will further support this commitment, said Mark Beattie, Chief Operating Officer at Belfast City Airport.
What will the new security screening enable?
The new security screening technology will enable passengers to keep liquids, gels, and pastes, including toiletries and cosmetics, up to 100ml and large electronic devices in their cabin baggage as they complete security checks at the airport.
What items currently have restrictions for boarding a plane in the UK?
- Liquids – such as drinks, sprays, gels, and oils-
- Lighters
- Food
- Powders
- Frozen items -exceptions include medicines and baby food or drink-
- Personal items- such as musical instruments-
- Mobility aids
- Cutlery
- Small scissors -no longer than 6cm-
- Electronic devices – E-cigarettes not allowed in hold luggage
- Sports equipment
