London Stansted Airport (STN) has become one of the first airports in the UK to receive UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) recognition for the measures that have been implemented across the airport to make it COVID-secure as it prepares for the return of passengers in the coming weeks.
Stansted, assisted by CAA and Public Health England, has established and maintained a range of COVID-secure activities to meet international guidance on COVID-19 safety measures which has been set out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The assessment looks at compliance with guidance on:
- General hygiene
- Cleaning
- Masks and face coverings
- Health screening and declarations
- The mental health and wellbeing of employees and passengers
- Specific steps for passengers with reduced mobility.
Stansted is the first UK airport to receive the official assurance recognition outside of the three participants of the pilot scheme, which included East Midlands Airport (EMA), London Heathrow Airport (LHR) and British Airways.
Steve Griffiths, London Stansted’s Managing Director, said: “This recognition is great testament and credit to the hard work of our teams across the business to keep our passengers and colleagues safe, and to ensure that we’re ready for the restart of international travel in the coming weeks. We can’t wait to welcome back our passengers, and this accreditation and recognition should provide them with the confidence and reassurance that we have done all that we can to make them feel safe while at the airport.”
