How does the role of a house keeper start changing into a robotic technician?”

Brian Cobb, Chief Innovation Officer of Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) discusses the scepticisms around autonomous technology, advanced air mobility and robotics with Holly Miles, Editor of International Airport Review.

Together they unpicked the arguments around whether new technologies will not replace the need for humans in airports, which Brian says is supplementing staff, not replacing.

Brian went on to say that due to the workforce shortage, there is a dynamic shift in the workforce and jobs are changing and there is a need to upskill labour. Airports must become self-sustaining in being able to repair robotics and train employees. The argument around whether technology will replace jobs is the difference between critical job functions as opposed to mundane work where skills are not used.

What is now keeping Brian awake at night is cyber concerns related to this new technology: “Airports have a target on their back,” he says.
