London Luton Airport (LLA) recently welcomed more than 50 local businesses to a networking event held at its new Excellence Academy, aimed at promoting local procurement and economic growth. The event provided suppliers and business groups with insight into the airport’s tendering opportunities and procedures.
In 2023, Luton Airport invested £110 million with over 300 businesses located within a 25-mile radius, representing 60% of its total supply chain spend. This year, that number has increased to more than 320 local suppliers, marking a year-on-year rise of over 70 businesses joining the approved supplier list.
Alberto Martin, Chief Executive Officer of Luton Airport, said: “This networking event provided a valuable opportunity to forge connections with local businesses and to highlight the many opportunities that will come with London Luton Airport’s plans for future growth. As a key economic driver in Bedfordshire, LLA supports 28,000 jobs and contributes £830 million per year to Luton’s economy, and our commitment to driving local procurement means we are now working with more local suppliers than ever before.”
The airport recently pledged its support to the Luton Anchors’ Framework, a collaborative initiative aligned with the Luton 2040 vision, which aims to create a healthy, fair, and sustainable town. This vision, shaped by the Inclusive Growth Commission’s 2019 report, places a strong emphasis on tackling poverty and inequality while boosting sectors such as manufacturing, digital, and green industries.
Luton Airport’s commitment to this framework underlines its ongoing focus on delivering social value, supporting employment, and contributing to the local community’s wellbeing and success.
Proceeds from the event’s ticket sales raised £3,500 for LLA’s charity partners, the National Literacy Trust and Tokko Youth Hub.
