Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, joined by the Board of County Commissioners and Miami International Airport (MIA) Director and CEO Ralph Cutie, led the official groundbreaking for Concourse K, marking MIA’s first terminal expansion since 2012. The new 300,000-square-foot concourse will add six new gates for domestic and international flights, post-security concessions, and a passenger lounge, with completion expected in 2029.

ā€œToday’s groundbreaking was a giant step in MIA’s $9 billion modernisation plan, which will completely transform our community’s gateway to the world over the next six years,ā€ said Mayor Levine Cava. ā€œAs the first major terminal expansion at MIA in nearly 20 years, Concourse K marks a historic milestone in our efforts to create a more modern, efficient, and passenger-friendly airport.ā€

With a total investment of $600.6 million, Concourse K will also include a two-level ground support equipment maintenance facility, a new baggage handling system, and key upgrades to airfield infrastructure. Designed to meet growing travel demand, the project integrates sustainable construction practices, earning both LEED Silver certification and Envision verification.

ā€œBreaking ground on Concourse K is more than the start of construction; it’s the continuation of a decades-long partnership at MIA and a bold investment in Miami-Dade’s future,ā€ said the Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture. ā€œThe Lemartec-NV2A Joint Venture is proud to help deliver a world-class facility that meets the demands of tomorrow with smart, sustainable infrastructure and an exceptional passenger experience at its core.ā€

Funding includes $91.2 million from the Federal Aviation Administration and $30.1 million from the Florida Department of Transportation, with the remainder financed by MIA revenue bonds, airline fees, and concession revenue, ensuring no cost to local taxpayers.

Concourse K is part of the broader M.I.A. Plan, which includes the Ibis garage, Central Terminal redevelopment, and upgrades to over 200 vertical transport systems, positioning the airport to serve 77 million passengers by 2040.
