Manchester United may have struggled on the pitch, but off it, they’ve topped the football shirt sales league for the 2024/25 season. Data from Manchester Airports Group (MAG), covering Manchester, London Stansted, and East Midlands airports, shows the Red Devils beat rivals Manchester City and the Premier League champions Liverpool to claim the No. 1 spot for most-purchased shirts.

Despite their strong form and recent trophies, Manchester City came second, while England shirts, buoyed by the upcoming UEFA Women’s Euros, came in third. Liverpool, who lifted the Premier League title, ranked fourth overall. The rankings are based on sales at JD Sports stores within MAG’s terminals from August 2024 to May 2025.

Arsenal were London’s top team, with their shirts outselling Chelsea, Tottenham, and West Ham, and topping the list at Stansted. Leeds United made an impressive return to the Premier League, landing in eighth overall thanks to strong national sales. At East Midlands Airport, Aston Villa led as the region’s top-selling club, ahead of Wolves.

Adam Jupp, Communications Director at MAG, said:

“Airports are always places where people love to show their football allegiances, whether that’s fans travelling to fixtures at home or abroad, or international visitors coming to watch world famous teams here in the UK.

Despite a dismal season, Manchester United’s appeal – both across the UK and with inbound tourists, appears to be as strong as ever. In fact, it has crept back above rivals City into top spot nationally.”

He added:

“The Premier League is a lot more competitive than it was, and that shows in the rankings. Regional loyalties come through too, Leeds United’s promotion winning campaign pushed it up the table, and Villa and Newcastle are also well represented.”

International shirts made a mark, with Argentina surprisingly breaking into the top 20. Champions League winners PSG ranked 10th overall, above traditional giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and the Milan clubs. Retro England kits also proved popular, with both 1990s editions and vintage designs appearing across regional lists.

At London Stansted, four London teams made the top ten, reflecting the airport’s diverse passenger base. Meanwhile, the East Midlands saw three different England kits rank, though local clubs Nottingham Forest and relegated Leicester City were absent.
