This year, Munich Airport is celebrating 15 years of partnership with three major Star Alliance carriers: United Airlines (formerly Continental Airlines), Singapore Airlines, and All Nippon Airways (ANA). These longstanding collaborations highlight Munich’s growing stature as a premium international aviation hub.

Details on Munich Airport’s anniversary

Continental Airlines, now part of United Airlines, launched the Munich–New York Newark route in March 2010. Since then, the airline has operated around 10,800 flights, transporting nearly two million passengers and 41,500 tonnes of cargo. United now flies this route using a Boeing 767-400 with 235 seats and has since expanded its network to include Washington, Houston, Denver, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Singapore Airlines also began scheduled passenger flights from Munich in summer 2010, having previously operated freighters linking the region with Singapore, India, and the US. Initially flying via Manchester, the service became nonstop from October 2016. The airline has since operated nearly 10,000 flights, carrying around 1.7 million passengers and some 96,000 tonnes of freight. During the pandemic, Munich was one of only two European cities the airline reconnected with early. “This underscores the mutual trust and strategic importance of the Munich hub,” a representative said. The route is now served by an Airbus A350-900.

ANA joined in July 2010, initially flying daily to Tokyo-Narita before switching to Tokyo-Haneda four years later. Since its launch, ANA has completed around 8,200 flight movements, transporting 1.4 million passengers and more than 128,000 tonnes of freight. The airline currently operates the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the route.

“Munich’s role as an international hub” is reinforced through these partnerships, which continue to benefit both passengers and cargo logistics. The triple anniversary reflects the enduring strength and success of these strategic alliances.
