SFO wins multiple ACI-NA awards for inclusion initiatives

Airports Council International – North America (ACI-NA), the foremost advocate for airport operators in North America, has honoured San Francisco International Airport (SFO) with multiple awards for human resources and inclusion initiatives. In their 2022 Human Resources Excellence Recognition Programme Awards, ACI-NA named SFO the Overall Human Resources Programme Award Winner for efforts to recognise the importance of employee wellbeing and sense of belonging, whether in the workplace, at home, or in the local community. SFO was also named the Large Hub Inclusion Champion for its efforts to ensure small business participation in airport concessions, which included a rent relief programme for tenants during the pandemic.

Both programmes incorporated the Airport’s Racial Equity Action Plan (REAP), created in 2020, a document that commits to maintaining a high standard of airport-wide equity and inclusivity by implementing meaningful solutions in hiring and recruitment, retention and promotion, and more.

“Our Racial Equity Action Plan is driving one of the most fundamental shifts ever undertaken in the culture of SFO,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “These guiding principles infuse every corner of our workplace to ensure that we continue to demonstrate the very best values of our region. We’ve also made change management and the development of future leaders a top priority in our HR processes, and we are truly grateful to be honoured by Airports Council International – North America for our efforts.”

The winners were recognised during an awards gala dinner at the 2022 ACI-NA Business of Airports Conference in Phoenix, Arizona, which was attended by nearly 550 commercial management, business diversity, human resources, and finance professionals from the North American airport industry.
