In a history spanning 80 years, Azerbaijan’s capital airport, Heydar Aliyev International, has gone from strength to strength. Jahangir Askerov, President of Azerbaijan Airlines, reveals why the airport is such an important part of the region, and the work that’s been carried out to ensure its ‘five star’ status.

Heydar Aliyev International Airport is the main airport of Azerbaijan. Located in the city of Baku, every year the airport carries more than four million passengers to more than 50 destinations. The airport is also the base of national carrier Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and low-cost airline, Buta Airways. The airport can receive and serve all types of aircraft, including the largest passenger airliner, the Airbus A380.
