Over a thousand local residents who had pre-registered attended Eindhoven Airport’s (EIN) Neighbour Day on Saturday. The event offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into airport operations through engaging activities in and around a hangar.

Details of the event

The Eindhoven Air Mobility Command fire department held a live demonstration, and children, under supervision, had the chance to spray water using the firefighting equipment. The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee showcased their gear, explained their roles, and gave visitors a tour of the detainee bus. Children were also thrilled to climb aboard their motorcycles. The bird control team shared insights into their work managing bird activity near the airport to ensure safety.

One local resident who attended was Frans Jacobs, and said in an interview with Eindhoven News that: “We are close neighbours. We live about seven kilometres from here, so we hear the planes every day. So we thought we should come and have a look when the door is open. It’s nice to get to know your neighbours a bit better.”

Handlers from Viggo and Skytanking let residents try out pushback vehicles and even practice marshalling aircraft with lighted wands. Security company G4S discussed their role, while Customs educated visitors about restricted items and demonstrated the skills of their sniffer dog during a search drill.

At Heijmans, VR glasses offered a preview of EIN’s terminal expansion, set for completion in 2027. Members of the Eindhoven Aeroclub Motor Flying shared their enthusiasm for sport flying and allowed visitors to explore a small aircraft displayed in the hangar. The Eindhoven Airport Regional Information Center provided insights into airport operations.

Children especially enjoyed photo opportunities with PSV mascot Phoxy, playing FIFA in a setup facilitated by PSV, and climbing into the plane for pictures. The day was a hit with attendees of all ages.

Neighbour Day was made possible by the voluntary efforts of several dozen EIN employees and the partner companies operating at the airport.
