San Francisco International Airport has revealed it will bring local neighbourhoods and airport guests together with ‘Dia de los Muertos’, with live music, dancing and cultural performances from San Francisco-based Latino artists.
Held every 1 to 2 November, the Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration originated in Mexico and is now observed worldwide. Traditionally, Dia de los Muertos is a time for the living to pay tribute to those who have passed away. In San Francisco, locals and visitors alike head to the city’s Mission District to celebrate both the holiday and the Latino and Hispanic heritage that makes San Francisco so special.
Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts (MCCLA) is the heart of the Mission and the center of Dia de los Muertos celebrations in San Francisco. MCCLA has brought their vision for this year’s (2022) celebration, ‘You Will Always Live in My Heart,’ to SFO, creating a spectacular shrine in Harvey Milk Terminal 1. Performances will run from 26 to 28 October and 2 to 4 November 2022.
