The project, expected to be completed in 2020 grants the airport the capacity to handle more flights and passengers in response to the increasing popularity and demand for the destination.
“The development of a three-runway system is an important part of Changi Airport’s expansion plans, which will take the Singapore air hub into its next phase of growth.”
The contract awarded follows on from a previous deal of a similar value in October and will add a third strip as part of the Changi East development which includes the large new passenger terminal, Terminal 5.
The already existing runways will then be connected to the third via and extensive 40km network of taxiways.
Mr Yam Kum Weng, Changi Airport Group’s executive vice-president, said in a statement: “The development of a three-runway system is an important part of Changi Airport’s expansion plans, which will take the Singapore air hub into its next phase of growth.”
