RIOgaleão and MICAELIS Forge Landmark Partnership for Sustainable Air Mobility in Brazil.
A historic memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between Tom Jobim International Airport (Galeão) and the Brazilian air mobility startup MICAELIS. This innovative collaboration aims to:
- Conduct autonomous eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) test flights to and from the airport.
- Design and establish a fully integrated vertiport.
- Enhance the passenger and cargo experience by optimising the journey between the terminal and the vertiport.
Impact and Innovation
This agreement signifies a leap forward in the future of aviation and urban mobility:
– Sustainability: The implementation of zero-emission air mobility solutions aligns with global carbon reduction goals.
– Efficiency: The integration of eVTOL services will significantly enhance the airport’s connectivity to the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan area.
– User Experience: The development of an app to manage passenger and cargo flows will elevate the travel experience.
Commitment to the Future
Alexandre Jose Guerra de Castro Monteiro, CEO of RIOgaleão, stated: “This partnership reaffirms our commitment to transforming Galeão into a hub of innovation and sustainability, connecting Rio de Janeiro to the future of air mobility.”
Vincent Kieffer, Co-CEO of MICAELIS, added: “We are thrilled to collaborate with RIOgaleão on this visionary project that will not only revolutionise urban transportation but also set new standards for sustainable aviation in Brazil and beyond.”
This MOU, initially set for 24 months, marks a major milestone in the evolution of airport infrastructure and urban mobility in Brazil, positioning Rio de Janeiro at the forefront of innovation in sustainable air transportation.
