Budapest Airport’s July traffic flies high again

Budapest Airport recorded another excellent month in July with passenger traffic growing by 8.5% compared to the same period last year. Airport statistics show that airlines are improving the utilisation of their aircraft with higher load factors, and London has kept its position as the number one city of origin.

946,542 – the exact number of departing and arriving passengers who used the terminals of Budapest Airport during the month of July. This represents an 8.5 % increase compared to the same month in 2013, and a 7.1% increase year – to – date in 2014. Traffic during the first seven months of this year is 184,000 p assengers higher than it was during the record – breaking year of 2011, when Budapest Airport registered 8.9 million travellers.

“We have every reason to be optimistic in our traffic forecast for this year in the light o f these figures. It seems that we are in for another record – breaking year,” said Jost Lammers, CEO , Budapest Airport. He added: “There are several reasons behind the growth. The efforts of our airline development team in recent years are paying off by having more new destinations and new airlines a t Budapest Airport than before. Also, Budapest and Hungary are attractive tourist destinations with all the summer festivals and the Formula 1 Grand Prix taking place in July.”

London was still the number one destination in July by passenger numbers (with Luton, Gatwick, Heathrow and Stansted airports all available from BUD), ahead of Paris (Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Beauvais) and Frankfurt, followed by Amsterdam and Brussels . T he traditional split by the country of origin of arriving passengers at Budapest Airport looked a little different with Germany being the number one sending country (71,313 or 15% of all passengers), the UK was second (66,568 or 14%) and Italy third (33,656 or 7%). Dutch travellers climbed to forth position in July (31,418 or 6.6%), slightly ahead of the Spanish (25,726 or 5.4%).
