Asia-Pacific airports continue to register a steady growth in passenger traffic for the month of July 2013 with a year-on-year increase of +5.9%, according to the latest ACI Passenger and Freight Flash Reports.

Middle Eastern airports recorded a +1.6% increase when compared to July 2012. Although this percentage is lower than the double-digit figures registered in previous months, it is however, in line with the traditional drop in passenger traffic in July or August each year due to Ramadan.

Year-to-date increase for the months of January to July 2013 shows a strong and steady increase +5.8% in Asia-Pacific and +10.0% in the Middle East comparing to same period last year.

The top 5 busiest airports in the region in July 2013 were Beijing (PEK), Tokyo Haneda (HND), Hong Kong (HKG), Dubai (DXB) and Jakarta (CGK). Phuket (HKT) and Chiang Mai (CNX) continued to be the airports with the highest year-on-year percentage increase showing +19.4% and +21.8% respectively in the month of July 2013.

Air cargo traffic continued to be stagnant in Asia-Pacific and showed only a slight increase of +0.4% in July 2013. Middle Eastern airports registered an increase of +2.3%, which is, similar to passenger traffic, lower than the percentage recorded in previous months. For the period from January to July 2013, the year-to-date percentage on air cargo in the Asia-Pacific showed a small decrease of -0.6% and for the Middle East, the only ACI region showing a positive year-to-date percentage, registered an increase of +5.5% when compared to same period last year.

The top 5 airports with the highest cargo throughput in July 2013 were Hong Kong (HKG), Shanghai Pudong (PVG), Dubai (DXB), Seoul Incheon (ICN) and Tokyo Narita (NRT).
