Budapest Airport has completed a series of passenger-focused and operational developments ahead of the peak summer travel period.

Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) has completed a range of passenger experience and infrastructure improvements designed to support the busy summer travel season while preparing the airport for future growth.
The developments form part of ongoing investments at Terminal 2, helping maintain operational efficiency and passenger comfort ahead of the airport’s longer-term Terminal+ expansion programme.
Passenger facilities expanded
One of the most visible improvements is the opening of the new Relax Parking facility, which became operational on 1 June. The development adds approximately 2,000 long-stay parking spaces and includes nearly 50 charging points for electric vehicles.
A dedicated shuttle bus operates every 15 minutes between the car park and the terminal, while passengers can also reach the terminal on foot in around 15 minutes.
The airport has also increased check-in capacity inside Terminal 2A through the installation of seven new hybrid check-in desks. The counters can operate either as traditional staffed positions or self-service baggage drop stations, depending on passenger demand.
The expansion supports the airport’s growing use of self-service technology, allowing passengers to print baggage tags, weigh luggage and complete the bag-drop process more efficiently.
Security screening facilities have also been upgraded. Automatic boarding pass reader gates have been relocated and expanded, while eight new security screening lanes have been introduced.
Airport officials said the redesigned layout improves passenger flow, increases processing capacity and creates additional space for travellers preparing for security checks.
To improve passenger comfort during periods of high temperatures, the airport is also expanding the cooling capacity within SkyCourt. Two new high-performance air handling units are expected to be installed by mid-summer, helping maintain comfortable indoor temperatures during peak travel periods.
Operational infrastructure strengthened
Alongside passenger-facing improvements, Budapest Airport has completed several infrastructure projects designed to strengthen long-term operational resilience.
The airport’s firewater pump house has undergone a major modernisation programme, including the replacement of ageing equipment and installation of a new diesel-powered pump system capable of delivering at least 45,000 litres of water per minute.
The investment enhances fire protection capabilities for critical operational facilities, including maintenance areas, hangars and fuel infrastructure.
Airfield infrastructure has also been upgraded through the refurbishment of Taxiway G. Covering more than 17,000 square metres, the project included new pavement construction, drainage improvements, lighting upgrades and the installation of new operational signage.
The airport has also completed seasonal preparations across its runways and aircraft operating areas to ensure readiness for increased summer traffic levels.
Budapest Airport said the combination of passenger service enhancements and behind-the-scenes infrastructure projects will help support safe, efficient and reliable operations throughout the summer season while providing a seamless travel experience for passengers.
