San Diego International Airport has recognised four airlines for reducing aircraft noise through quieter fleets and strong operational performance during 2025.
The San Diego International Airport (SAN) has announced the winners of its 2025 Fly Quiet Awards, recognising airlines that have demonstrated outstanding performance in reducing aircraft noise and supporting community-friendly operations.
Organised by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, the annual programme assesses airlines on factors including aircraft noise levels, fleet modernisation and compliance with the airport’s overnight departure curfew. The 2025 assessment reviewed 27 airlines and more than 210,000 aircraft operations.
Modern aircraft support quieter airport operations
United Airlines received the highest overall score in the large domestic carrier category, supported by its use of quieter Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The airline also achieved the highest fleet quality score in its category and recorded the strongest curfew compliance.
Breeze Airways was recognised as the leading small domestic carrier after operating Airbus A220 aircraft throughout its San Diego services. The airline also earned the highest fleet quality score in its category while maintaining strong performance in both noise reduction and curfew compliance.
DHL Express USA won the air cargo category, with the Airport Authority highlighting the operator’s quieter Boeing 767 fleet and zero curfew violations during 2025.
Lufthansa received the international carrier award for operating Airbus A350-900 aircraft at San Diego and recording no nighttime departures or curfew breaches throughout the year.
The Fly Quiet Programme was introduced in 2017 by the Airport Authority in partnership with the Airport Noise Advisory Committee to encourage airlines to minimise the impact of aircraft operations on surrounding communities. Airport officials said the latest results demonstrate continued progress as more airlines adopt newer, quieter aircraft while maintaining operational efficiency and compliance with local noise restrictions.
