Aviation organisations are launching a regional air traffic management initiative ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 to support operations across Latin America and the Caribbean.

Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation and International Civil Aviation Organisation have launched a regional aviation partnership designed to support air traffic management across Latin America and the Caribbean ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The initiative has been developed in collaboration with aviation technology companies Thales, Metron Aviation, PASSUR Aerospace and Aireon to help Air Navigation Service Providers manage the expected increase in regional air traffic during the tournament.
Regional aviation partnership launched ahead of FIFA World Cup 2026
The FIFA World Cup 2026 is expected to generate significant passenger demand across the region, with millions of supporters, teams and international delegations travelling between destinations throughout the competition.
According to the organisations involved, the initiative will provide Air Navigation Service Providers with predictive analytics, surveillance data and collaborative flow management tools aimed at improving operational coordination and reducing disruption.
The partnership will focus on helping aviation stakeholders anticipate demand peaks, optimise airspace efficiency and improve coordination between neighbouring Flight Information Regions.
Technology systems included within the programme include Thales’ TopSky Flow Management platform, Metron Aviation’s traffic flow management systems, PASSUR Aerospace visualisation tools and Aireon surveillance data services.
Together, the platforms are intended to create a unified operational view of regional airspace while supporting real-time decision making during periods of elevated traffic demand.
Simon Hocquard said aviation will play a critical role in ensuring efficient travel during the tournament and highlighted the importance of regional coordination across the aviation sector.
The organisations stated that the programme also aims to support operational resilience, environmental performance and improved fuel efficiency through more effective traffic flow management.
The initiative marks a broader effort to strengthen collaboration between Air Navigation Service Providers and aviation stakeholders across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Josué González said the tournament presents an opportunity for the aviation industry to enhance cooperation and improve regional operational coordination.
The programme is expected to support safe and efficient airspace operations throughout the FIFA World Cup period while helping airports and aviation authorities prepare for increased international traffic levels.
