The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced the implementation of the One Stop Security pilot, a congressionally authorised programme designed to simplify international travel for passengers flying to the United States.
One Stop Security allows passengers arriving in the U.S. from certain foreign airports with connecting flights to bypass TSA rescreening. The pilot began in July, initially including flights from London Heathrow Airport. American Airlines’ One Stop Security flight connects to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, while Delta Air Lines’ flight arrives at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. The programme is a top priority for Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and results from collaboration between TSA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the United Kingdom.
“One Stop Security is TSA’s latest common-sense approach to streamlining the passenger journey while also bolstering aviation security,” said TSA Acting Deputy Administrator Adam Stahl. “International air travel can often be a challenging and time-consuming process. It’s our goal to simplify this experience while maintaining the highest levels of security. We believe One Stop Security is an important step in that direction and helps us advance President Trump’s vision for a new Golden Age of American travel, while ensuring the homeland is safe and secure.”
Participating foreign airports must meet standards equivalent to TSA’s requirements. Benefits of the programme include allowing passengers to skip the TSA rescreening process upon arrival, proceed directly to the terminal’s sterile area after CBP inspection, and have checked baggage transferred to connecting flights without additional screening. The programme is expected to improve aviation security at foreign locations, reduce costs, and enhance the passenger experience.
One Stop Security joins other TSA initiatives aimed at improving travel, including the “Serve with Honor, Travel with Ease” campaign recognising military service members and their families, and the “Families on the Fly” programme, offering benefits such as dedicated family lanes and discounted TSA PreCheck fees.
