Swedavia’s Stockholm Arlanda Airport has created a new alliance with ANA, Japan’s largest airline, developing a direct route to the country’s major hub Tokyo Haneda.

Starting at the end of January next year, ANA will operate the route three times a week, becoming an important link between the Swedish capital and important Asian markets.

ANA (All Nippon Airways), a member of Star Alliance and the largest provider of passenger services scheduled on both the domestic and international market to and from Japan, will run flights from January 2025. The route will connect the Japanese capital to Sweden, but also act as a point of contact for the whole Asia and the South Pacific region, due to ANA’s vast network.

“There is great confidence in the Swedish air travel market and ANA’s investment in a direct route from Stockholm Arlanda Airport to Tokyo Haneda is a clear sign of this. ANA will play an important role in connecting Sweden to Japan and other well-established markets in Asia. Swedavia’s main goal is to increase the connectivity and ANAs vast network facilitates for people to meet, whether it is for business, leisure or to visit family and friends,” said Jonas Abrahamsson, president and CEO of Swedavia.

“We are thrilled to include Stockholm in our growing European network. We look forward to contributing to the deepening of ties between Japan and Sweden, fostering even closer relations between our two nations,” said Shinichi Inoue, President and CEO of ANA.

Japan is Sweden’s second largest trading partner in Asia, with close to 150 Swedish companies – both major corporations and start-up companies – operating in Japan, the world’s third largest economy. Sweden in turn is the largest Nordic export market for Japan, and roughly 180 Japanese companies have operations in Sweden.

The new direct route with 5-Star airline ANA will be significant for the hospitality industry as well as the growing business exchange between Japan and Sweden, where important cargo will benefit from shorter and faster delivery times.

The route Stockholm Arlanda Airport – Tokyo Haneda will start operating on 31 January 2025, and will be operated three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Tickets will be on sale from 22 July 2024.
