Easter proves to be egg-cellent for Heathrow Airport

Heathrow International Airport reported a strong rise of passenger traffic during the Easter and managed to function well, despite doing so against a disruptive backdrop of industrial action.

A strong rise of passenger volume for the Easter break at Heathrow.

Heathrow International Airport reported a strong rise of passenger traffic during the period of Easter. Getaways for the holiday season were imperative for this, and the airport continued to do well, dispute operating against a disruptive backdrop of industrial action.

  • More than 6.2 million passengers flew through Heathrow in March, a million more than in February.
  • 31 March was one of the airports busiest days since 2019, with 221,606 passengers travelling through the airport. Service levels were excellent, in spite of this being the first day of industrial action by Unite. Our strong contingency plans have kept the airport running smoothly throughout the strike period.
  • The airport has listened to colleagues on the pay offer and has proposed changes they have asked for. This is a materially different proposal, which the airport believes Unite should let their members have a say on.
  • Terminal 5 marked 15 years of operations this month, during which time it has welcomed almost 400 million passengers. For much of the last decade it has been voted by passengers as the Best Airport Terminal in the World in the annual Skytrax survey.

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye, said:

“I am very proud of the way that colleagues have pulled together to ensure passengers got away smoothly on their Easter holidays. Our security team has done a brilliant job, supported by our entire management team who have been ‘here to help’ in the terminals. Many passengers have told me that we exceeded their expectations.”
