Today [1 August 2022], 37 young people between the ages of 15 and 31 have started their training or dual studies at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH. 29 apprentices and eight dual students start their in-company training in 16 commercial and industrial-technical professions.

For the first time, six apprentices from the new IHK training occupation “plant firefighters” will be there.

Michael Halberstadt, Managing Director Human Resources at Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH, said: “BER Airport is already an important economic factor for the capital region. This development will continue to intensify. That’s why we need qualified young talent. Training is an investment in the future, and Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH is an attractive employer. We are pleased that this year we were once again able to arouse the interest of applicants who want to use BER as a runway for their careers.”

Diverse perspectives

First, the trainees and students get an insight into the work of the departments of the airport company and BER itself. Highlights include a multi-day team-building measure in which the trainees and dual students can get to know each other better, as well as a city tour through Berlin, as around a third of the new trainees do not come from the capital region. Afterwards, the “newcomers” start their first practical assignments in the specialist departments. In the first year of the apprenticeship, mentors from higher grades provide the new trainees and students with help and advice. The theoretical training takes place in block lessons for a total of 13 weeks per training year at an upper school center in Berlin or Brandenburg. With the three-year training for the commercial trainees and the three-and-a-half-year training for the industrial-technical professions, the trainees acquire the IHK or HWK vocational qualification after passing the examinations. Students complete a three-month rotation of science-related studies at the Berlin School of Economics and Law and study-related practical assignments at FBB. After successfully completing their studies,  they will receive a Bachelor’s degree. Also taking part is the training-integrated study programme aeronautics and management in cooperation with the TH Wildau. Here, aviation training is interlinked with a course of study. All apprentices and dual students will end up with a permanent position if they perform well.
