EUROCONTROL, EASA and the European Commission collaborated successfully on the creation of a multi-airport noise model called STAPES (System for AirPort noise Exposure Studies) which provides Europe with a new noise-modelling capability that complies with the latest international standards.

Plane over houseWith over 3.5 million European citizens considered to be exposed to significantly high levels of aircraft noise today, the aim of this project is to improve the coverage and harmonisation of aircraft noise maps. This would help reduce the constraining factor that noise is to airport expansion in Europe.
