FRA passenger traffic rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year…

Frankfurt Airport’s (FRA) passenger traffic rose by 2.5 percent year-on-year in the reporting month of October 2011. Almost 5.15 million passengers used the FRA global air transportation hub – approximately 126,000 more passengers than in the previous peak-October month of 2010. Accumulated maximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) climbed by 0.8 percent to 2.57 million metric tons. Aircraft movements increased by 0.5 percent to about 42,500 takeoffs and landings. Airfreight was the lone traffic segment to register a 9.3 percent decline to about 187,000 metric tons.

FRA’s new Runway Northwest, which Fraport inaugurated on October 21, did not impact the latest traffic statistics yet. However, Fraport AG indicates that since the start of the Winter Timetable 20011/2012 on October 30 FRA has recorded additional flight traffic and stronger passenger figures.

The Fraport Group’s five majority-owned airports – Frankfurt (FRA), Antayla (AYT) in the Turkish Riviera, Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR) on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coat, and Lima (LIM) in Peru – served a total of 8.91 million passengers in October 2011, advancing 4.7 percent year-on-year. Cargo throughput (airfreight and airmail) for the Group reached more than 220,000 metric tons, down 7.3 percent year-on-year. Total aircraft movements for the Group grew by 2.3 percent year-on-year to 72,400 takeoffs and landings.

During the ten month January-to-October period the Group majority-owned airports welcomed a total of 84.5 million passengers, a jump of 9.2 percent year-on-year.
