Northrop Grumman builds on air traffic management system success in Dubai

Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems, continues to grow its international sales in the Middle East region with the supply of communication, navigation and surveillance systems for the recently opened Al Maktoum International Airport in Jebel Ali, Dubai which is set to become the world’s largest airport when it is fully completed.
Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has supplied a range of communication, navigation and surveillance products to Al Maktoum International valued at more than $16 million, including ground movement radar (GMR), voice communication control system (VCCS), very high frequency radios (VHF) and instrument landing systems (ILS).
The company has provided daily on-site support over the last 24-months to ensure that all necessary electrical and electronic infrastructure has been implemented in the control tower and associated technical buildings and to meet design and schedule requirements.
Northrop Grumman Park Air Systems has also been performing the role of Air Traffic Control Tower Integrator (ATCTi), with responsibility for planning, designing, delivering and installing a structured cabling infrastructure to support all ATC systems that will be used in the control tower and associated technical buildings.
The Al Maktoum International airport is the centre piece of the $33 billion Dubai World Central (DWC) mega-project and is planned to be the world’s largest airport when fully completed. The five-runway airport will eventually be able to handle 160 million passengers a year, up from the previously projected 120 million, as well as 12 million tonnes of cargo. The airport will expand towards its full capacity over the coming years and this will include a second air traffic control tower.
Northrop Grumman has previously provided GMR and ILS at Dubai International airport and has also delivered air traffic management solutions for other airports in the neighboring Emirates and Gulf states, building a reputation in the region as a supplier of high quality ATC equipments and services.
