CICS (Complete Integrated Certification Services Ltd) is pleased to announce that it has received formal accreditation by UKAS (United Kingdom Accreditation Service) to provide Greenhouse Gas verification of annual emissions data and tonne kilometre data for aircraft operators under the EU ETS Scheme.

The aviation sector has been included in Phase II of the EU ETS Scheme; 2010 emissions will have to be monitored and then these emissions independently verified, by a UKAS-accredited body such as CICS, prior to submission of reports by 31st March 2011. In addition, if aircraft operators wish to apply for free carbon allowances under the Scheme they will be required to submit verified tonne kilometre data.

As one of the leading GHG verifiers in Europe and North America and having verified over €7 billion worth of EU ETS emissions to date, CICS will be drawing upon its vast experience of the EU ETS regulations to make the verification process as efficient and cost-effective for airlines as possible.

Shaun Bainbridge, a director at CICS, commented: “Time is now of the essence for aircraft operators – the sooner they choose an accredited verification body, the sooner the verification process can start. This way, any problems with data collection and monitoring can be ironed out well in advance, ensuring that penalties for late reporting are avoided. Receiving this accreditation so early provides a strong reassurance to CICS’ aviation clients.”
