Transfer passengers at Hong Kong International Airport can now join free cultural tours, enjoying fast-track clearance and exploring the city’s heritage, harbour and countryside.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) has launched a free local tour service for transfer passengers, offering them the chance to explore the city’s culture and attractions during a single layover. The initiative, organised by Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) and Trip.com, includes exclusive fast-track immigration clearance to ensure smooth access and timely boarding. Air-to-air transfer passengers with a layover of at least seven hours are eligible to join at no cost.
The launch ceremony at HKIA was officiated by Vivian Cheung, Chief Executive Officer of AAHK, and Jane Sun, Chief Executive Officer of Trip.com Group.
Vivian Cheung said, “We are delighted to introduce the new free local tour service for transfer passengers at HKIA to turn transit time into cultural exploration opportunities. With the support from Trip.com, we look forward to presenting Hong Kong’s unique beauty to travellers from around the world and promoting tourism, through which we aim to attract more passengers to transfer at Hong Kong and strengthen HKIA’s position as a premier international aviation hub.”
Jane Sun added, “We believe the future of travel lies not only in reaching destinations, but in transforming every moment into a unique and memorable experience. By reimagining every point in the journey as an opportunity, we are opening new ways to inspire travellers, empower destinations, and set a new standard for how the global travel ecosystem fosters connection and drives growth.”
The itineraries are designed to showcase Hong Kong within half a day. Options include the “Heritage and Local Lifestyle Citywalk”, a guided exploration of historic neighbourhoods, and the “Victoria & West Kowloon Waterfront Journey”, offering evening views of the harbour. From December 2025, the “Serenity & Stories: A Harmony Journey” will highlight the city’s countryside. In addition to free tours, Trip.com will offer paid options for further exploration.
Travellers must hold a valid visa or meet Hong Kong SAR entry requirements. Eligible passengers may pre-book online or register on arrival at HKIA, with places allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Free Layover Tour is part of HKIA’s wider Transfer Programme, which will also feature mobile games and cultural workshops. More services are due in the coming months.
