A high-speed and efficient ferry service will commence its trail today on 28 April 2023 at SkyPier of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA). It will serve passengers in Pazhou in Guangzhou, and will connect the restricted area of HKIA to the downtown of Guangzhou. The new ferry services offer international business parties, members of the exhibition and convention sectors and Guangzhou residents an easy journey to and from Guangzhou and destinations worldwide via HKIA.
Located at the Pazhou Ferry Terminal, Pazhou Port is situated adjacent to The China Import and Export Fair (Canton Fair) complex in the Haizhu district of Guangzhou, where e-commerce enterprises establish their national and regional headquarters in.
SkyPier provides travellers with seamless sea-air intermodal transport connection. Travellers can complete immigration, check-in and baggage tag through at Pazhou port in advance, get the boarding pass and arrive at SkyPier, located in HKIA restricted area, in about two hours by speedy ferry. They can then proceed to boarding gates for boarding directly, without having to go through immigration and customs procedures in Hong Kong.
Steven Yiu, Executive Director, Airport Operations of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), said, “We are delighted to further expand the cross-boundary transportation network at HKIA. The number of travellers between the Mainland and overseas destinations via HKIA has been increasing since early this year. The ferry services to and from Pazhou will provide travellers from the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and around the globe, in particular participants of the Canton Fair, a more convenient travel option. We will continue to optimise the sea and land connections between HKIA and the GBA cities, offering travellers more convenient intermodal services.”
As a preferred transfer hub for GBA travellers, HKIA connects to over 220 destinations worldwide, including 50 destinations in the Mainland, served by over 120 airlines.
AAHK has been enhancing the cross-boundary transportation between HKIA and the GBA, enabling travellers from the region to transfer to destinations worldwide. In addition to the cross-boundary speedy ferry services connecting to various ports in GBA, AAHK set up city terminals in the region. Travellers can complete check-in in advance, then travel to HKIA by coach.
