Bordeaux Airport

Launched on 5 April 2012 by Carlos Munoz, Lazaro Ros and an experienced team of air transport professionals, Volotea is the airline serving European regional capitals. Present in France since 25 April 2012, with a first flight between Bordeaux and Venice, the company has rapidly developed to become one of the major players in inter-regional air transport in Europe. Today Volotea is celebrating its 2,000,000th European passenger in Bordeaux with, as guest of honour, Alain Juppé, Mayor of Bordeaux.

Volotea rewards one of its most loyal passengers

Soline Venard was recognised today as the two-millionth passenger carried by Volotea since the beginning of its operations in Europe. Ms Venard, a vet from Royan in Charente-Maritime, won a year of free flights to all Voltea destinations from Bordeaux. To celebrate the event, the passenger was presented by Alain Juppé, Mayor of Bordeaux and Carlos Muñoz, Founder and CEO of the company, with a giant plane ticket on the tarmac of Bordeaux airport.

Volotea, exponential growth

Volotea today serves 115 destinations, around 59 French and European cities (in 8 countries: France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Greece, Croatia, the Czech Republic and Israel) and has operated more than 25,000 flights. In France, the company is present at 15 French airports where it serves more than 50 destinations. In 2013, Volotea carried over 1.4 million passengers in Europe and has set a goal of 1.8 million for 2014.

In Bordeaux, Volotea offers 17 lines (6 national and 11 international). The airport is a French base for the company which keeps 3 of the 15 aircraft in its fleet in Bordeaux. The company is continually growing and has created 460 jobs in Europe including 75 in its Bordeaux base and 200 across France. These jobs are created under French law.

In 2014, the Bordeaux base is expected to grow by 55%, offering 377,750 seats, i.e. 134,750 more than in 2013. The company will also open flights from Bordeaux this summer to Figari, Palma de Majorca, Calvi, Naples and Valencia.

Volotea also achieved very good scores in terms of customer recommendations, with 92% to 97% of passengers saying they would recommend the airline to their friends. Voltea is particularly proud of these figures which once again prove the quality of services on offer.

Carlos Muñoz said: “As founder and CEO of the company, I am very proud today to be welcoming Soline Venard, our two-millionth European passenger. Bordeaux has a very special place in our hearts, having hosted our first flight in France two years ago now. By putting on this significant event, we would like to thank the Bordeaux people for their warm welcome. Thank you Soline and thank you Bordeaux”.
