Today, Gatwick Airport has been utilising its £8 million snow fleet to keep the runway clear of snow.

Despite an accumulation of over 5cm of snow, Gatwick has remained open and flights have been safely landing and taking off.

We have been working closely with all our airline partners and their handling agents, Air Traffic Control and other interested parties and as a result over 570 scheduled flights have been handled with minimal disruption.

Gatwick’s snow team has been out on the airfield throughout the course of today ploughing, sweeping and brushing away the snow to make it safe for aircraft to land and take-off.

Snow is forecast for the weekend and so Gatwick Airport strongly advises passengers flying out this weekend to contact their airline to check their flight status before making their way to the airport. With public transport and roads likely to be affected, passengers should check with transport operators before they travel.

Flight information is also available on our website at www.gatwickairport.com and passengers can get updates on Twitter @Gatwick_Airport.
