KCI Airport passenger traffic down 8.6 percent in November

The City of Kansas City, Mo., Aviation Department reports that Kansas City International Airport recorded 777,350 passengers arriving and departing through its gates in November, which represents a decrease of 8.6 percent from November 2011. Passenger boardings at KCI were down 8.1 percent, with a total of 389,371 during November. For the year to date, boardings at KCI totaled 4,483,624, a decrease of 3.4 percent from the same period last year.

The number of peak-day scheduled aircraft departures for November was 181. Service was offered to 45 nonstop markets. There was an average of 35,978 arriving and departing seats available in the market each day, down 3.6 percent from last year.

“The decreases we are seeing in passenger statistics relate to decreases in monthly airline departures and available seats in the market,” said Tom McKenna, assistant director of aviation – marketing for the Aviation Department. “This trend began in the summer 2012 and should continue for the next few months. We look forward to an upward trend in the spring.”

Air cargo tonnages, which consist of both freight and mail transported by air, for all carriers at KCI were up 4.0 percent in November. For the year to date, air cargo at KCI is up 3.1 percent from the same period last year. Air freight handled at KCI during November amounted to more than 16 million pounds, which represents a year-over-year increase of 3.4 percent. Air mail for November was up 30.72 percent from November 2011. The all-cargo carriers reported 4 daily departures for November.
