Five Brazilian airports earned ANAC awards for environmental innovation, reflecting Vinci airports’ strategy to cut carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices across its global operations.

Salvador (SSA), Manaus (MAO), Porto Velho (PVH), Boa Vista (BVB) and Rio Branco (RBR) airports, part of the VINCI Airports network, have been recognised by the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) for their environmental best practices. This highlights VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainable and innovative airport management.
Salvador Airport (SSA) was recognised in the Society and Inputs pillars in the category for airports handling more than 5 million passengers annually. Manaus Airport (MAO) received the same recognition in the category for airports with up to 5 million passengers. Boa Vista (BVB), Porto Velho (PVH) and Rio Branco (RBR) airports were awarded under the Externalities pillar in the category for airports with up to 1 million passengers. These awards reflect Brazilian airports’ dedication to VINCI Airports’ environmental strategy, which targets a 67% reduction in carbon footprint by 2030, compared to 2018, for scopes 1 and 2, while involving stakeholders in the decarbonisation process.
Since taking over Salvador Airport in 2018, VINCI Airports has implemented its environmental sustainability plan in Brazil. Key initiatives include the use of 100% renewable energy, achieving the “zero landfill” waste management goal, treating wastewater with zero environmental discharge, and obtaining ISO 14001 environmental certification and ACA 4+, the international carbon reduction certification from Airport Carbon Accreditation.

At Amazonian airports, local initiatives have further supported sustainability. Boa Vista Airport (BVB) introduced LED lighting, an electric tricycle for waste collection, and modernised its baggage conveyor to cut energy use. Porto Velho Airport (PVH) adopted similar waste solutions and supports reforestation through seedling donations to Sedam. Rio Branco Airport (RBR) uses Sonoof, an intelligent lighting management system, to optimise electricity use. In Manaus (MAO), environmental efforts include biodiversity and education initiatives, such as turtle preservation programmes, facilitating research, and hosting an ecological trail for public environmental education.
“Receiving this recognition from ANAC reinforces VINCI Airports’ commitment to sustainability as a core value of our operations in Brazil and around the world,” said Julio Ribas, CEO of VINCI Airports in Brazil. “This achievement is the result of collective effort… Working collaboratively, sharing best practices, is what strengthens the entire industry and allows us to evolve continuously.”
