ACI World predicts global passenger traffic will grow by 10% in 2024, reaching 9.5 billion travellers, according to its newly released Annual World Airport Traffic Report.

The Airports Council International (ACI) World has announced that it has released its 2024 Annual World Airport Traffic Report, forecasting global passenger traffic to increase by 10%, reaching 9.5 billion travellers in 2024. This comprehensive report, drawing on data from over 2,700 airports across 180 countries, offers detailed insights into aviation industry performance for 2023 and projections for 2024.
In tandem with the report, the organisation also unveiled its bi-annual air traffic demand Advisory Bulletin. This trusted resource provides essential data on air travel demand for ACI members and the broader aviation industry, reinforcing ACI World’s position as a leading authority in the field.
In 2023, global passenger traffic rose to 8.7 billion, marking a 30.6% increase from 2022 and reaching 95% of pre-pandemic levels. The forecasting model, which had predicted this figure with 99.99% accuracy, continues to prove invaluable to industry professionals and policymakers in strategic planning.

ACI World Director General Justin Erbacci said: “The release of the 2024 Annual World Airport Traffic Report highlights the resilience and adaptability of the global aviation industry and demonstrates ACI World’s unmatched ability to predict and analyse industry trends. As we continue to navigate an increasingly complex and evolving landscape, ACI World remains committed to supporting our airport members through advocacy and the development of timely resources.
“The insights provided in this report – reaffirming ACI World’s 99.99% forecasting accuracy – are crucial for aviation stakeholders, policymakers and industry professionals to make informed, data-driven decisions and strategically plan for the future.”
Despite positive growth indicators, the report notes potential risks such as geopolitical tensions, labour market challenges and supply chain issues in aircraft manufacturing, which could impact the industry’s long-term outlook. Nonetheless, with international passenger numbers expected to reach 4.1 billion by the end of 2024, ACI World projects sustained recovery for global aviation.
