Airport International Group (AIG) – the Jordanian company responsible for the rehabilitation, expansion and operation of Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) – announced an impressive 15.5% jump in passenger traffic (PAX) during the month of January.
QAIA kicked off the year with positive results, registering a 15.5% increase in PAX in January 2014 compared to 2.6% during the same month in 2013, to reach 548,559 PAX. Similarly, aircraft movements (ACM) rose from 3% last year to 7.7% this January, recording 5,673 ACM.
“Our January 2014 figures were majorly driven by a rise in Umrah Passengers which saw an increased number of traffic to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. To accommodate this steady growth and fulfill our future aspirations, AIG commenced the second phase of the QAIA expansion project which is set to catapult annual passenger capacity even further to reach up to 12 million upon its completion in 2016,” commented Kjeld Binger, CEO of AIG.
