The groundless claims circulating on the internet that the airport had been shut down following a security alert and possible terrorist threat are reported to be ‘unfounded’. Tourists and holidaymakers were allegedly not allowed to enter or leave the airport.

The hoax was primarily spread on the social media network Twitter and then officially debunked by the airport’s own account.

The rumours follow on from the attack on the airport earlier this year that killed 45 people in June.
