SELEX Systems Integration Inc (SELEX) has been awarded a contract from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to supply Model 1118A/1119A Distance Measuring Equipment (DME). Under the contract, SELEX will work with FAA to develop, incorporate and validate specified enhancements into the baseline DME to optimize its performance for both current and Next Gen operation in the National Airspace System (NAS). The contract includes engineering development and technical support, a comprehensive training program and an option for extended depot maintenance support over the service life of the systems. All equipment will be manufactured at the SELEX facility in Overland Park, Kansas, USA.

The contract also includes requirements for comprehensive integrated logistics support and a systems safety program. As part of the SELEX team, ITT Corporation will provide its vast speciality engineering expertise to support SELEX’s performance in these areas.

The Model 1118A/1119A is a field-proven system developed by the SELEX US engineering design team at the company’s Overland Park facility. Nearly 300 units have been sold to SELEX’s international customers and are in operation world-wide. Designed with inherent flexibility to incorporate the advanced features and extended performance required for NextGen operations, the Model 1118A/1119A is the optimal solution for application in both conventional and Area Navigation and Required Navigation Performance (RNAV/RNP) environments.
